Hamta Pass Trek Manali

Manali is not only famous for its scenic beauty but also for the number of treks which starts from Manali. For the adventure lovers it is a perfect destination to discover and explore nature. And one of the best and short treks is Manali to Hamta Pass. Manali to Hamta Pass is single day trek but if you want to cover Spiti region and Chander Taal Lake then at least 4-5 days are required. Hamta Pass is at 14380 fts and on the way there is beautiful forest of maple tree and Himalayan Birch tree or Bhojpatra tree in Hindi. Bark of Bhojpatra tree in ancient times used for writing scripture and texts.

Earlier there was no road connectivity for Hamta Pass, but after construction of A. D. Hydro Project it is easily approachable by road. Distance from Manali to Hamta Pass is around 20 kms. Road is up to a place called Jobra from where water of river is channeled for Hydro Project. On the way there is a small beautiful village called Sethan where few tea stall are also available. Nearest place for accommodation are Hotels in Manali but you can also get Home Stay option in Sethan Village also.

“According to local residents and some books of Himachal Tourism, legend associated with Hamta Pass is that the soul of people travel to heaven or hell on this route. Mount Indrasan is said to be the gateway to the other World. Many people say that they hear happy and sad voices here. Happy voices and trumpets signify that a person is going to heaven whereas the crying sounds signify that the person on the way to hell. Another legend is that Pandavas had sown rice here during exile. That place is called Pandu Ropa and till now you can find these fields there”.

Moving further from Jobra next place is called Balu Ka Gera whose one side is high rock mountain and other side is beautiful meadows and between them a water stream flowing between the mountain and meadows. Balu Ka Gera is best place for camping and spending night here. You can also see lots of shepherd and their flock nearby Hamta Pass and during winter season they move down hill as the road is closed due to heavy snowfall. The slopes of the meadows are perfect for skiing and when road are closed adventure activities lover come here by helicopter and enjoy heli skiing too. After crossing the Hamta Pass, Spiti region begins and geographical condition and atmosphere is totally different.

Paragliding in Manali

Earlier flying without wings was dream with open eyes, but in today’s world nothing is impossible. There is much more than throwing yourself in air. Manali is also such a place where you can make world at your feet. Paragliding in Manali is always a thrilling experience. Lots of visitors from around the world enjoy this adventure activity in Manali. There are two spot for paragliding in Manali. One is Solang Valley and other is Marhi. Distance from Manali to Marhi is around 30 kms where as Solang Valley is just 13 kms away from Manali. Short and high fly are available from both spots. Rates of this adventure activity are fixed by District Administration but you can still bargain as rates vary season to season.

Other famous places for paragliding in Himachal Pradesh are Bir Billing in Kangra District, Intkali near Rohru and Bundla Bhar in Bilaspur district. Last year in October 2015 World Cup of paragliding also held at Bir Billing with attracted lots of adventure lover to the Valley.

Nehru Kund Manali

Manali having lots of waterfalls, hot water springs and natural springs, but one of the most famous places for sightseeing in Manali is Nehru Kund. Nehru Kund is natural water spring which is around 5 kilometers from Mall Road Manali on Manali Leh Highway towards Rohtang Pass. Nehru Kund is named after the visit of first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru who used to drink water of this spring during his stay at Manali. Water of this spring is very clear, cold and refreshing which attracts the Prime Minister.

Water source of spring is Bhrigu Lake, which is uphill above the Nehru Kund. Waters in this spring come between the big rocks. Surrounding near Nehru Kund is very neat and clean. There is little sitting area near spring and in early morning lots of nature lovers come near Kund and make a positive start of day by drinking this water and having yoga and other exercises. In front of Nehru Kund there is also a famous Hanuman Temple.

So, while you are in Manali don’t forget to visit this natural spring. Maximum visitor explore this place of sightseeing while returning from Rohtang Pass.

Nature Park Manali

Kullu Manali is a complete holiday package for any age group. Charm of Kullu Manali attracts lots of domestic and international tourist every year. From thrilling of Rohtang Pass to blessing Temples, there are much more to do in Manali.

But one of the best places for relaxing near Manali is the Nature’s Parks around the city. These parks are full of tall pine trees. There are three parks near Manali, first one starts from private Volvo bus stand and ends near Mall Road Manali. This park not contains much for entertainment, but still there are few seesaw and little pond for paddle boating. It is the best option to spend a peaceful evening. Second Park is behind the Hadimba Devi Temple. After taking the blessing from Hadimba Devi one can visit this park. And third Park is on the way to Hadimba Temple and known as Wildlife Information and Interpretation Centre. This park has a small pheasantry inside which contains various pheasant’s species of Himalayas like Himalayan Monal, Red Jungle Fowl, Kalij, Koklass and Cheer Pheasant.

These parks are away form hustle bustle of the city and perfect place for peace lover. There are nominal entry charges and you can spend a whole day. From morning onward health conscious people start visiting these parks for walk, you can also witness lots of foreigner’s tourist playing games, enjoying music during monsoon season.

Procedure to get permit for Rohtang Pass

After a long wait of 6 months finally Rohtang pass is opened for tourist this year. Total numbers of vehicle permitted are 1200 which includes 800 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles. To visit Rohtang Pass one has to obtain on line permission from official website and of Kullu District Administration after paying permit fee and congestion charges.

From 09-06-2016 onward permits can only be applied from 12:00 Noon till Mid Night daily.

Few tourism busses are also plying in this route and one can obtain tickets from tourism office near Mall Road Manali.

Allowing of 1200 vehicles to Rohtang Pass is temporary decision of National Green Tribunal which may change in near future.

Procedure to apply for Rohtang Pass permit.

2. Click on the on line permit for Rohtang Pass & beyond.
3. Click on Apply permit for Rohtang (For Tourism Purpose)
4. Click to proceed for on line payment of Taxes / Fees.
5. Fill vehicle details at Green Area Permit.
6. Enter OPT for Reference Number which you received through mail or message.
7. Click Proceed for Payment.
8. Make payment through Credit card or Debit card.
9. Take print out of permission generated which is required at various check post on the way to Rohtang Pass.

Anjani Mahadev "Amarnath of Kullu or Chota Amarnath" - Manali

Anjani Mahadev is a holy temple of Devi Anjana (Mother of Lord Hanuman) in Manali where the main attraction is ice Lingam formed by flowing water from mountain. It is said that Devi Anjana meditated at this place. During winters when temperature decreases and the water flowing from the mountains fall at a particular point and at same time due to minus temperature, water freezes and formed a Lingam shape. Some time Lingam attains height up to 20 to 30 feet. And because of same formation procedure of Lingam it is also called Amarnath of Kullu or Chota Amarnath.

Thousand of tourist and local devotees visit Anjani Mahadev during mid of December to mid of April. Especially during Shivratri number of devotee offers their prayers and takes holy bath near temple.

Anjani Mahadev is around 2 kms from Solang Valley (13kms from Manali). There is 40 minutes uphill trek and also horses and taxi are available at Solang valley which takes number of visitors to temple daily.
